Stephen Monty

Stephen was a lawyer with Royal Bank of Canada from 1985 to 2010, first in Montreal and later in Toronto. His work for the bank and its subsidiaries involved loan workouts, securities, securities regulatory, corporate, financial institution regulatory matters, and proprietary acquisitions and divestitures. He was at various times responsible for the Corporate Services,

Corporate & Investment Banking and the M & A teams within the bank's Law Department. Before joining Royal Bank, Stephen was an associate in a law firm in Sherbrooke, Quebec and lectured in commercial law at Bishop's University.

He received Civil and Common Law degrees from the University of Ottawa in 1977 and 1978 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit in 1981. He was a member of the bars of Quebec (1980), New York (1984) and Ontario (1985).
